An incident has been reported from the Pallama Police Division where a father allegedly beat his 17-year-old son with a pole, attempted to stab him with a knife, and finally shot and injured him with an air rifle.


Pallama Police stated that this family, residing in the Madawakkulama Adigama area, has a history of frequent disputes.


The incident occurred on October 18, when the father suddenly attacked his 17-year-old son, who was sitting in the yard, with an iron rod, striking him on the leg.


The blow caused an injury to the son. As the son limped away, the father reportedly fetched a knife and attempted to stab him.


At that moment, the mother and elder sister intervened and prevented the father from stabbing the son.


However, the father did not stop there. Police stated that he threw the knife down, went inside, retrieved an air rifle, and shot the son, causing injuries.


The injured son was subsequently admitted to the Puttalam Hospital for treatment.


The 61-year-old father has been arrested by the Police in connection with this serious incident, presented to the court, and was remanded on the October 19, Police added.
