Jaffna+and+Mannar+rail+services+to+resume+from+Jan.+1

The long-awaited railway services to Jaffna will resume from January 1, 2026, with trains operating from Colombo up to the Kankesanthurai railway station.


Railway services to Mannar will be fully operational from February 1, 2026, Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Dr. Prasanna Gunasena told Parliament.


Meanwhile, the popular Colombo–Badulla train service, which currently operates only up to Ambepussa, will be extended to Badulla by tomorrow (20),” he said.


The fully repaired Batticaloa railway line will also be reopened and operational from January 1.


It was further disclosed that the Chilaw railway line, which currently operates only up to Naththandiya, will be fully operational up to Chilaw from January 1, 2026.
