Efforts to repair the electrical infrastructure at the University of Peradeniya, damaged by recent flooding, are currently underway. A specialised team of 44 individuals, including members of the Kelani Saviya Alumni Association and the Sri Lanka Electricity Board General Employees' Union, provided the necessary labour and expertise for the restoration.

The initiative serves as a gesture of gratitude toward the university, according to G.D.K. Samaranayake, President of the Kelani Saviya Alumni Association. He noted that the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering previously provided opportunities for individuals who did not gain university admission to pursue vocational training in electrical work.

During a single day of intensive labour, the team inspected electrical circuits and restored nearly 350 plugs and switches to working order. The flooding had previously submerged several key university locations, including the Faculties of Management, Veterinary Medicine, and Agriculture, as well as the Works Department and the Sarasavi Medura hostel.

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Lalintha Samaranayake, expressed appreciation for the critical support provided by the alumni and the electricity board union during this challenging period.
