Sri Lanka’s export sector recorded strong growth during the first five months of this year, with total export earnings surpassing the USD 7.3 billion mark.

According to data released by Sri Lanka Customs, alongside estimated statistics for gems, jewellery, and petroleum products, the country's cumulative merchandise and service export earnings between January and May 2026 are estimated at 7,393.39 million US dollars.

This represents a 7.56 percent growth compared to the corresponding period in 2025.

During this timeframe, merchandise export earnings stood at USD 5,758.44 million, marking a 7.63 percent increase.

The service exports sector also grew by 7.31 percent, generating a revenue of USD 1,634.95 million.

In May 2026 alone, Sri Lanka's export revenue reached USD 1,570.64 million, reflecting a significant year-on-year growth of 18.34 percent compared to May 2025.

Merchandise exports rose by 18.25 percent, while service exports increased by 18.67 percent.

Commenting on the performance, Mangala Wijesinghe, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board, stated that this achievement reflects the resilience, adaptability, and determination of Sri Lankan exporters.
