Officers involved in the disappearance of $2.5 million from the government treasury will face responsibility for repayment if the funds are not recovered.

Deputy Minister of Tourism Ruwan Ranasinghe shared this stance while addressing media inquiries, noting that an investigation involving international agencies is already underway.

The loss came to light after an Australian creditor notified Sri Lankan authorities that a scheduled loan installment went unreceived.

Speaking at the Luxury Travel Fair yesterday (28), the Deputy Minister expressed confidence in recovering the missing amount.

Failure to retrieve the money will result in the treasury officials connected to the matter being held personally liable for the total sum.

The government continues to probe the circumstances surrounding the missing foreign exchange to ensure accountability.
