Outstanding athlete Tharushi Abhisheka, who hails from Gampola and has elevated Sri Lanka’s name in the international athletics arena, has achieved a historic milestone by winning the country’s first-ever gold medal in the women’s 1500m event at the 22nd Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships held in Hong Kong, China.

This remarkable achievement marks a significant moment in Sri Lanka’s athletics history.

She secured this victory through the continuous sponsorship of SCOT Campus and under the guidance of her coach, Mr. Buddhika Nuwan.

Tharushi, who began her athletic career in Galewela in Matale District under challenging economic conditions, gradually developed her exceptional talent at Gampola Wickramabahu National School, which paved her way to national-level success.

Later, from 2024 onwards, SCOT Campus began providing full sponsorship to support her sporting journey.

Although she had not participated in any international competitions at the time she first received sponsorship, her dedication and commitment quickly enabled her to achieve notable international success.

Accordingly, she finished fourth in the women’s 800m final at the 2024 Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships held in Dubai.

She continued her progress by winning the gold medal in the 800m event at the 6th Asian Under-18 Athletics Championships held in Saudi Arabia in 2025, marking Sri Lanka’s first-ever gold medal in that event and entering the record books.

Reaching the peak of her performance, Tharushi Abhisheka clinched the gold medal in the women’s 1500m event at the 22nd Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships in Hong Kong, bringing immense pride and glory to Sri Lanka.

Her success is attributed not only to her dedication but also to the expert guidance of veteran coach Buddhika Nuwan and the continuous support provided by SCOT Campus.
