Justice Minister Harsha Nanayakkara informed Parliament that the Cabinet has not approved any extension of the retirement age for judges, including those serving in the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.

Responding to Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, he said that while requests have been made by judges and other professionals to increase the retirement age, the government is still considering the matter, adding that some of these proposals are seen as reasonable while others are regarded as politically motivated.

Nanayakkara stressed that no formal decision has been taken to date.
