Wife and the legal counsel of former State Intelligence Service Director, Retired Major General Suresh Sallay have requested the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to allow daily visits while he receives treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.

The request letters were separately submitted to the CID Director after a court declined to grant permission for such access.

Sallay, who is currently detained in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks investigation, is undergoing medical treatment while remaining in CID custody.

When the matter was heard at the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court on June 10, lawyers representing Sallay sought a court order permitting daily visits from his family during hospital visiting hours.

However, Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara ruled that the court didnot have jurisdiction to grant such an order, noting that the suspect is being held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).

Following this ruling, Sallay’s wife directly appealed to the CID Director requesting permission for daily visits.

His lawyer, Asith Siriwardena, also made a separate request, stating that he needs regular access to monitor his client’s condition, ensure his rights and welfare, and update the court accordingly.

Siriwardena further noted that frequent communication is necessary, particularly as Sallay is reportedly on a hunger strike.

Meanwhile, victims of the Katuwapitiya St. Sebastian’s Church bombing held a silent protest today (11) near Baladiya Junction on the Colombo–Negombo road, demanding an impartial investigation into the Easter Sunday attacks and urging authorities not to interfere with the ongoing probe.
