Two motorcyclists died yesterday afternoon following two separate incidents in two areas of the island. Police Headquarters stated this.
The police mentioned that a four-year-old child sustained injuries and was hospitalised in one of the locations following these incidents, which were reported from the Athurugiriya and Matale police divisions.
A motorcyclist who sustained serious injuries in an incident that occurred in the Panagoda area on the Athurugiriya - Godagama road in the Athurugiriya police division died after admission to the Homagama Hospital for treatment. The police stated this.
The deceased individual was a forty-eight-year-old resident of the Panagoda area.
Investigations revealed that the motorcycle, which was travelling towards Athurugiriya, hit a dog that jumped across the road, causing the motorcycle to overturn. The police stated this.
Meanwhile, another incident occurred within the Matale police division on the A-09 road when a motorcycle travelling towards Dambulla collided with a vehicle loaded with gas cylinders travelling in the same direction.
The motorcyclist died on the spot due to the impact, and a four-year-old child travelling on the motorcycle at the time sustained injuries and was admitted to the Matale Hospital for treatment.
The person who died was a seventy-four-year-old resident of that area.
