A sudden fire broke out today (16) afternoon in a transformer installed at the cancer unit of the Galle National Hospital.


Hospital authorities took steps to completely disconnect the power supply to the cancer unit as a safety measure with the outbreak of the fire.


However, hospital employees and the municipal fire fighting unit of the Galle Municipal Council acted immediately as soon as the fire broke out and worked together to control the fire.
