The Czech Republic claimed early control when Sadilek latched onto an Adam Sojka lay-off, firing past the South African goalkeeper before a crowd of 67,442. South Africa struggled to break down a resilient Czech defence, failing to register a shot on target until the 74th minute. The critical breakthrough arrived inside the final 10 minutes when a powerful shot from Thapelo Maseko struck the arm of Pavel Sulc inside the penalty area. Mokoena converted the resulting penalty, slotting the ball confidently into the bottom left corner.

The draw leaves both sides trailing Mexico and South Korea in the group standings. However, with the 8 best third-placed teams advancing to the round of 32, a win in their next fixtures will likely guarantee progression.
