The Sri Lankan culinary team secured the silver medal at the prestigious 2026 SCO Summer chefs' competition, marking the country's name in gold letters within the international culinary field.
The tournament took place on June 26th and 27th in Qingdao, China.
Teams representing powerful nations such as China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan participated in the tournament, which brought together many of the world's most talented chefs.
Head chef Nishad Samaranayaka and assistant chef Manoj Liyanage entered the competition representing a Sri Lankan restaurant located in Beijing, China.
They presented several Sri Lankan recipes, including traditional milk rice and coconut roti unique to Sri Lanka, and these dishes, seasoned with Sri Lankan spices, received high appreciation and praise from top-tier Chinese chefs as well as international food experts.
Sri Lanka won an international-level culinary competition in China after fifteen years, rewriting records in the culinary field.
