Sarath Weerawansa, the brother of former Minister Wimal Weerawansa, was remanded until 22 July by Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasinghe today.

The order was issued after the suspect was arrested by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division today and produced before the court.

The arrest relates to the alleged misuse of vehicles belonging to the State Engineering Corporation, which reportedly caused a financial loss to the government.

During a previous court hearing on 10 June, the Financial Crimes Investigation Division informed the court that Sarath Weerawansa would be named as a suspect in the case, acting on the instructions of the Attorney General.

Following a request by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division during that hearing, the court also issued an order banning the suspect from travelling abroad.
