The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka (CanCham SL) celebrated the 159th Canadian Confederation Day with a flagship event attended by Isabelle Martin, High Commissioner of Canada to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, members of the diplomatic community, government officials, private sector leaders, and other stakeholders.
"This was truly one of the most successful Canada Day celebrations in our history, with an outstanding turnout and exceptional networking opportunities. It was wonderful to see so many distinguished guests, business leaders, and community members come together," the High Commissioner said.
Established with the support of Global Affairs Canada and under the patronage of the Canadian High Commissioner, CanCham SL has rapidly evolved into a dynamic platform for promoting bilateral trade, investment, innovation, and people to people ties between Canada and Sri Lanka.
The Chamber has established its Secretariat at Horton Place, Colombo, launched a membership drive, and formed sectoral core groups focusing on tourism, global one health, IT and fintech, women in development, and education and skills.
CanCham SL Board Member Mohamed Hameez said the Chamber will lead a Business Promotion Mission to Toronto, Montréal, and Vancouver in late 2026 to strengthen commercial ties and explore new investment opportunities.
He added that other planned initiatives include an ocean cleanup programme to mark the Chamber's first anniversary, a Peace Led Climate Friendly Sustainable Development Forum, its first Annual General Meeting, and a Global Health and Wellness Conference in 2027.
Hameez said key milestones achieved in 2026 include the launch of the One Global Health Initiative with partners in Saskatchewan, the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the CanCham network in the presence of Mark Carney, and high level engagements with Scott Moe and ICECD India.
To mark Canada Day, CanCham SL, together with Lions Club International District 306 D8, organised a corporate social responsibility programme at Camilla School, Mattegoda, benefiting more than 70 differently abled students.
