The Criminal Investigation Department stated that a land registrar was arrested for aiding and abetting alleged organised crime by providing documents from the Colombo Land Registry to external parties.

The arrested individual is the land registrar of the Colombo Land Registry located within the Cinnamon Gardens police division.

The suspect was arrested after being summoned to the Financial and Commercial Crimes Investigation Division, Financial Crimes Investigation Unit Two, to record a statement based on a complaint received by the Criminal Investigation Department.

Preliminary investigations revealed that while serving as the Colombo Land Registrar, the suspect provided folios, volumes, second copies of deeds, and documents bound in volumes to external parties, thereby conspiring to aid and abet organised crime, and fraudulently preparing documents to dispose of lands belonging to legal owners.

The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the court for committing offences under Sections 109 and 113 to be read with 113 (b) and 158 of the Penal Code, as well as offences under the Offences Against Public Property Act.

The arrested suspect is a 51-year-old resident of Rukmale, Pannipitiya.

The Financial and Commercial Crimes Investigation Division, Financial Crimes Investigation Unit Two of the Criminal Investigation Department, is conducting investigations.
