'Dinana Dakuna' - the collective for the rehabilitation of right-wing politics issued a media statement expressing its strong opposition to the urgent constitutional amendment the government is preparing to bring up on the extension of the retirement age of judges.

This statement was issued today (04) under the signatures of the Dinana Dakuna's council officebearers and executive committee.

The Dinana Dakuna collective points out that Secretary to the Ministry of Justice and National Integration, President's Counsel Ayesha Jinasena stated that she did not receive a concept paper regarding the extension of judges' retirement age and that she did not prepare such a cabinet paper, giving rise to reasonable suspicion that this cabinet paper was prepared by other parties without the intervention of the relevant line ministry.

The organisation states that the statement made by the President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, Attorney-at-Law Rajeev Amarasuriya, after calling on the Chief Prelates of the Malwatte Chapter further confirms this suspicion.

The statement also notes that the Chief Prelate of the Malwatte Chapter informed that a letter expressing opposition from Chief Prelates of the Three Sects against this proposed constitutional amendment was forwarded to the President.

The organisation further states that it strongly condemns the government's attempt to execute an urgent constitutional amendment like this after promising the public to introduce a new constitution.
