The Central Environment Authority says that there is a water leak from the underground tunnel of the Umaa Oya multi-function project.
CEA chairman Professor Lal Dharmasiri said that this had been revealed from the investigations the CEA had carried out.
The professor said that as a result of this project several Environment Assessment Committee conditions had been violated.
The Umaa Oya project construction activities have been currently put on hold temporarily.
However CEA chairman Professor Lal Dharmasiri said further that a decision on recommencing the project or not, would be taken shortly after considering the reports scheduled to be forthcoming from two quarters.
