The Ambalantota Police have arrested a suspect with a stock counterfeit liquor manufactured locally similar to the international liquor brands.
The arrest was carried out in Mayurapura Sinha village in Ambalantota.
During interrogation, it was revealed that the suspect has purchased local liquor and had added other chemicals so that it matches the taste and the colour of the international brand liquor.
It was also revealed that these stocks of counterfeit liquor which were packaged and labeled as globally known whiskey, brandy and other liquors were transported to Colombo.
During the raid, stock of various chemicals and equipment used to manufacture counterfeit liquor were also apprehended by the police,
The Ambalantota OIC stated that they had received information that a stock of counterfeit liquor is en route to Colombo, as it was loaded prior to the raid, and that further investigations are being carried out.
He further stated that these counterfeit liquor had been sold at popular restaurants in Colombo at the prices of Rs 5,000 to 6,000.
