The project was launched by the Government claiming a portion of land belonging to the D.S. Senanayake College and the adjoining Sri Bauddhaloka Viharaya has been halted.
The portions of land were acquired by the Urban Development Authority for urban development purposes.
The Gazette Notification in this regard was issued on 19 May under Gazette number No. 2228/27.
Reportedly, it was proposed to construct a multi-story car park on the lands acquired.
However, members of the Old Boys' Association had visited the Urban Development Authority to inquire in this regard.
This was followed by a media briefing where the UDA Director General Prasad Ranaweera informed the media regarding the decision taken by the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing.
