A tense situation arose today (18) during a satyagraha carried out by a group including the Mayor of Hambantota demanding the removal of the Chairman of the Hambantota Salt Company.

A group of people who came in front of the salt lake were damaging the CCTV cameras and behaving in a riotous manner.

On December 28 last year, a group including the Mayor of Hambantota staged a continuous satyagraha in front of the main gate of the Maha Lewa demanding the removal of the Chairman of the Ceylon Salt Company and the increase in the salaries of the Board of Governors and the removal of the salt shares of businessmen around Hambantota.

Nishantha Sandabarana, Attorney-at-Law, Chairman of the Ceylon Salt Company, lodged a complaint with the Police Headquarters yesterday alleging that he had received death threats and intimidation from the Mayor of Hambantota during the week-long satyagraha.
