CEB Introduces Hotline to report illegal power lines

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has introduced a new hotline, '1987,' to encourage the public to report instances of illegal power lines. This initiative aims to address the issue of numerous elephant deaths caused by the contact with unauthorized power lines.

Illegal power lines, often set up without proper authorization, pose a significant threat to wildlife, particularly elephants. These power lines can lead to electrocution incidents, causing harm to elephants and other animals in the vicinity. Addressing this issue is crucial for wildlife conservation and preventing human-wildlife conflicts.

Elephant Deaths: Unauthorized power lines have been linked to numerous elephant deaths due to electrocution. Protecting wildlife, especially endangered species like elephants, is a priority for conservation efforts in Sri Lanka.

The introduction of the hotline is likely part of broader efforts to raise public awareness about the consequences of illegal power lines and the importance of reporting such instances promptly.
