Ekanayake Walawwe Asela, the former Chairman of the Kundasale Pradeshiya Sabha, who was arrested on suspicion of illegally acquiring assets, has been granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate's Court.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) arrested the suspect and presented him before Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali.
The suspect was arrested on charges of committing an offence under the Bribery Act by acquiring property valued at Rs. 2,838,911 in one year, an amount that could not have been earned from his salary during his tenure as the Chairman of the said Pradeshiya Sabha from 2009 to 2016.
The Bribery Commission informed the court that the investigations related to this incident have been concluded.
Considering the submissions made, the Magistrate ordered the suspect to be released on two personal bail bonds of one million rupees each.
