A police inspector attached to the Kantale Wan-ela Police Station was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), on charges of misleading the investigation into the murder of two Vavunathivu police officers.
The incident occurred on 29 November 2018, when two police constables, Niroshan Prasanna Udugama and Ganesh Dinesh, were shot dead while on duty at a police roadblock approximately 1.5km from the Vavunathivu Police Station.
The body of Constable Udugama was found on a bed inside the guard post, while Constable Dinesh's body was discovered nearby, tied up with a rope.
