ARMY COMMANDER LIEUTENANT GENERAL LASANTHA RODRIGO GRANTED SERVICE EXTENSION

Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo, the current Commander of the Army, has been granted a one-year service extension by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.


The extension will be effective from August 1.


Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo assumed duties as the 25th Commander of the Sri Lanka Army on the morning of December 31 at the Army Headquarters in Battaramulla.


An alumnus of St. Benedict's College, Kotahena, Lasantha Rodrigo joined the Sri Lanka Army as a cadet officer on the 20th of January, 1989.


He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on the 5th of October, 1990, and began active service with the Artillery Regiment.


Rodrigo holds a Master's degree in Homeland Security Studies from the International Counterterrorism Cooperation Program at the National Defence University in Washington.


Before his appointment as Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo served as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army.
