UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has carried out a sweeping reshuffle of his cabinet following Angela Rayner’s resignation.
David Lammy becomes deputy prime minister and justice secretary, calling it “the honour of my life.”
Yvette Cooper moves to foreign secretary.
Shabana Mahmood takes over as home secretary.
Pat McFadden is now work and pensions secretary.
Steve Reed, formerly environment secretary, takes Rayner’s old role as housing secretary.
Emma Reynolds replaces Reed as environment secretary.
Peter Kyle becomes business secretary, while Jonathan Reynolds shifts to chief whip.
Liz Kendall takes over as science secretary.
Lisa Nandy remains culture secretary.
Rachel Reeves stays on as chancellor.
Douglas Alexander replaces Ian Murray as Scotland secretary.
Alan Campbell replaces Lucy Powell as Commons leader.
Rayner stepped down after the PM’s ethics adviser ruled she breached the ministerial code by failing to pay sufficient tax on her £800,000 flat. The adviser noted she had “acted with integrity.” Rayner said she takes “full responsibility,” while Starmer said he was “very sorry” her time ended this way.
