Today, September 21, marks one year since Anura Kumara Dissanayake was elected as Sri Lanka’s ninth Executive President.
He was elected with 5,634,915 votes and was sworn into office on September 23 last year.
Dissanayake, who is the leader of the National People's Power (NPP) ran as the alliance's presidential candidate.
According to the government, the past year has seen a reduction in the revenue and expenditure gap.
State revenue alone reportedly reached Rs.3.2 trillion in the first six months of this year.
The government also reports increases in tourism revenue, foreign investment, and foreign exchange, as well as a rise in exports and customs revenue.
In addition, the government says it has taken steps to strengthen state-owned enterprises, uphold the rule of law, and implement programmes to foster national unity and reconciliation, alongside efforts to combat drugs and the underworld.
