
Four members of the same family have been arrested while allegedly engaged in illegal treasure hunting in the Koknahara area within the Inginiyagala Police Division.
The arrests were carried out last afternoon (10) by officers of the Ampara Division Anti-Corruption Unit, following a tip-off received by the unit.
According to police, a water pump, electric cables used to power equipment, and several other items including ritual objects, charms, and offerings were seized during the raid.
Initial investigations have revealed that the suspects had been conducting excavation activities for several days prior to the arrest.
The four suspects, along with the recovered equipment, have been handed over to the Inginiyagala Police Station for further legal action.
