Increase in foreign job scams via social media

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has announced that the number of complaints received regarding financial fraud related to overseas employment opportunities promoted through social media is increasing daily. 

The SLBFE's investigations have revealed that the majority of these job advertisements are fake and have not received the necessary approval from the Bureau.

The Bureau strongly urges all individuals seeking foreign employment to verify the following before making any payments or handing over travel documents,

• Ensure that the recruitment agency holds a valid, legal licence registered with the SLBFE.


• Confirm that the specific job opportunity has been officially approved by the SLBFE.

The SLBFE has requested the public to report any information regarding fraudulent agencies or individuals to the Police Unit of the Special Investigations Division via the following contact numbers:
