Kotugada Grid Substation shut down

The Kotugoda 220/132/33kV Grid Substation has been temporarily taken out of operation due to severe flooding in the Kotugoda area, says that Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

Continuous heavy rainfall has caused the surrounding floodwaters to rise rapidly, resulting in the entire substation premises becoming inundated, it said in a statement.

As of yesterday (29) evening, the water level has reached the control panel level, it added.

Given that the situation has now exceeded safe operating limits, the CEB has de-energized and switched off the Kotugoda Grid Substation.
It said that the decision was taken in the interest of public safety, the safety of employees on site, and the protection of critical electrical infrastructure.

The CEB said teams are closely monitoring the situation, and power restoration will commence as soon as water levels decrease and the substation is verified as safe for operation.
