Reports of landslide at Sri Pada declared false

News published on some social media platforms regarding a landslide at the Sri Pada grounds are completely false, according to the Chief Incumbent of the Sri Pada Temple, Bengamuwe Sri Dhammadinna Thera.

Issuing a special statement, the Chief Incumbent said that natural rock fragments and soil containing vegetation that grow on the mountain below the peak grounds tumble down every year during the heavy rain season.

The Chief Incumbent further stated that this is a natural occurrence and that the incident occurred on the Ratnapura route. The Sri Pada grounds or the temple were not affected by this.

Senior Superintendent of Police for the Hatton Division, Pradeep Weerasekera, mentioned that vegetation growing on the Sri Pada, along with soil, falls down during the heavy rain period. A mass of soil containing such vegetation fell yesterday (29) onto the Iddikatupana road, which connects the Hatton and Ratnapura routes, and steps were promptly taken to remove the fallen vegetation.
