The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning affecting several parts of the country today (09).
The warning covers the Sabaragamuwa, Western, and Southern provinces, as well as the Kurunegala district.
The advisory is effective until 11.00 pm today.
Red alerts for severe weather have been issued for 09 districts.
Amber alerts are in place for 06 districts.
The Met Department is warning that thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur in some locations.
The public is strongly advised to take adequate precautions to minimise the risk and damage that may be caused by lightning activity.
