India donates ten Bailey bridges

A shipment of ten Bailey bridges arrived in Sri Lanka to support the reconstruction of infrastructure severely damaged by Cyclone Ditwah.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced today (31) that the Indian Navy vessel 'INS Gharial' transported the bridges from the Port of Visakhapatnam to the Port of Colombo.

This donation aims to restore vital transport links and provide relief to communities isolated by the destruction of roads and permanent bridges during the cyclone.

This initiative forms part of a $450 million Special Economic Package previously announced by the Indian External Affairs Ministry.

The deployment of these modular bridges is expected to accelerate the recovery of the inland transport network in the most affected regions.
