Sri Lanka to implement revised speed limits

New speed limits for Sri Lankan roads will likely take effect before March 31. National Council on Road Safety Chairman Manjula Kularatne stated that the process of revising these limits reached its final stages.

The update aims to enhance road safety and improve traffic flow across the island. Under the new plan, authorities identified high-risk and densely populated areas where speed limits will decrease to ensure pedestrian and motorist safety. Conversely, officials consider increasing speed limits for modern highways and unobstructed routes to facilitate faster travel.

The preparation of legal provisions and the installation of new road signage will finish shortly. This initiative focuses on reducing road mishaps and managing traffic congestion more effectively through modernised regulations.
