Police open fire on lorry

Police in Kilinochchi opened fire on a lorry in the Dharmapuram area early this morning after the driver defied orders to stop.

According to official reports, the vehicle was being used to transport sand without the necessary permits.

Officers discharged their firearms at the rear tyres of the lorry in an attempt to halt its progress during the pre-dawn pursuit.

Despite the damage to the vehicle's tyres, the suspect driver managed to abandon the lorry and flee the scene on foot.

Operations are currently underway to track down and arrest the suspect.
