Head injury cited as cause of death for toddler

Severe brain damage resulting from a blunt force impact to the head caused the death of a two-year-old girl in Magammana, Homagama.

Specialist Judicial Medical Officer Panitha Seneviratne revealed these findings during the post-mortem examination conducted at the Homagama Base Hospital on the 15th.

The victim, identified as Parindi Dilanya, lived with her mother and older brother following her father's departure from the family.

Investigations by Mattegoda Police suggest the mother and an associate subjected the children to persistent cruelty over the past four months.

Reports indicate the pair viewed the children as a nuisance to their relationship, leading to frequent physical assaults.

The suspect allegedly attacked the child early on the day before her passing and took her out the following morning.

Doctors pronounced the girl dead upon arrival at the hospital later that evening, after the mother claimed the child suffered from an allergic reaction.

Acting Magistrate Padmasiri Jayawardena visited the hospital and ordered the full forensic probe that uncovered the fatal injuries.
