The National Building Research Institute (NBRI) has extended the landslide early warnings for the Kandy, Kegalle, Matale, and Ratnapura districts.
Affected areas under Level 3 (Red) warning
The NBRI has advised residents in the following high-risk areas to evacuate immediately to safer locations:
Kandy District: Yatinuwara, Doluwa, Ududumbara, and Ganga Ihala Korale.
Kegalle District: Yatiyanthota, Kegalle, Dehiowita, Aranayaka, and Mawanella.
Matale District: Rattota, Ambanganga Korale, Laggala Pallegama, Wilgamuwa, and Ukuwela.
Ratnapura District: Ratnapura Divisional Secretariat and surrounding areas.
Vigilance and emergency measures
In addition to the red alerts, Level 2 (Amber) and Level 1 (Yellow) warnings remain in force for parts of the Badulla, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, Hambantota, and Monaragala districts.
The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) has urged the public to remain vigilant for pre-landslide signs, such as sudden cracks in the ground, tilting of trees or utility poles, and the appearance of new springs or muddy water.
The NBRO stressed that the current atmospheric disturbance near the island is likely to bring further heavy showers above 100 mm to the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces. Local authorities and the police have been instructed to coordinate emergency evacuations where necessary to ensure the safety of lives and property.
