Farmers in the Ampara district face severe hardships following the collapse of a sluice gate at the Ambalanoya reservoir.
Located within the Damana Divisional Secretariat division, the reservoir's sluice gate remains broken for over a month.
Residents report that the water continues to flood and destroy numerous acres of paddy fields.
Farmers warn of an additional risk regarding the collapse of the irrigation system's banks and anticipate the situation will worsen with upcoming rains.
They point out that the current leak makes it impossible to maintain the necessary water capacity required for the upcoming Yala cultivation season.
The farming community urges authorities to provide an immediate solution to this ongoing issue.
