Everyone entering the court premises must be treated with respect, regardless of their status, according to Minister of Justice and National Integration, Attorney Harshana Nanayakkara.
He made these remarks while addressing a group of 69 newly recruited Grade III Court Security Officers during an orientation program held via Zoom at the Ministry auditorium.
The Minister emphasised that public officials now possess the freedom to perform their duties according to the law and public needs, free from personal influence or political pressure.
He noted that in a democratic society, while politicians set policy directions, public servants are responsible for executing them efficiently and fairly.
Reflecting on past challenges, he acknowledged that there were instances where the independence of officials was compromised due to political affiliations, which eroded public trust.
Addressing the new recruits specifically, the Minister stated that their role is to provide disciplined and systematic security to court premises.
He added that every individual seeking justice or performing a duty at court must feel safe and respected.
He concluded by reiterating the government's commitment to restoring professionalism and dignity within the public service, allowing officials to work solely for the benefit of the people.
