Seven officers from the Kotmale Police were targeted by a wasp attack today (01) while attempting to raid an illegal liquor distillery in a forest reserve in the Vedamulla, Ramboda area.
The attack occurred after a wasp nest on a tree became disturbed while the officers moved through the reserve.
Among those injured is the Station House Officer of the Kothmale Police Crimes Investigation Unit.
Two 1990 Suwaseriya ambulances arrived near the reserve to transport the group to the Kothmale Regional Hospital.
Following initial treatment, five officers in serious condition were transferred to the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital for further care.
