New Janata Peramuna Leader Sugishwara Bandara requested the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to present evidence to court if they discovered the mastermind behind the Easter Sunday attacks, a feat he noted remained unaccomplished by powerful nations like the USA and five previous presidential commissions.
He made these remarks in Ratnapura today (04) while participating in a public petition campaign against the arrest of State Intelligence Service Head Major General Suresh Sallay.
Bandara described the current efforts to catch the mastermind as the beginning of a theatrical performance.
State Minister Ananda Wijepala previously claimed that Pillayan would reveal everything following his arrest, but Bandara noted that no such outcome occurred.
He stated that despite being held for over a year, no charges related to the Easter Sunday attacks were filed against Pillayan.
Political influence and retaliatory measures were allegedly used to force a statement from Pillayan linking Gotabaya Rajapaksa to the attacks.
Bandara suggested that the arrest of Salle was intended solely to satisfy the Cardinal, pointing out that Salle was in India when the attacks occurred and in Malaysia two years prior to that.
He concluded by urging the CID to immediately disclose the identity of the mastermind to the country if they have indeed found one.
