Mobile inspection officers from the National Transport Commission (NTC) intercepted buses transporting passengers illegally from Colombo's People's Park to Hatton, Nawalapitiya, and Dayagama on the night of April 11. Acting on a tip-off received by NTC officers and personnel stationed at the Bastian Mawatha Bus Terminal, officials conducted a raid at the location.
Investigations revealed that the buses were planning to operate without valid passenger transport permits. Additionally, operators were found to be overcharging passengers beyond the regulated fares.
Officers informed the waiting passengers of the situation and redirected the unauthorised vehicles for further legal action.
