Around 55,000 passengers travelled to their hometowns from the Makumbura Multimodal Transport Centre since the 8th for the Sinhala and Hindu New Year.
The National Transport Commission (NTC) Director of Planning, Aloka Karunaratne, shared these details today (12) while inspecting the scheduled bus services at the centre.
The Director noted that yesterday (11) recorded the highest number of travellers during this festive season.
To ensure passenger convenience, authorities arranged for a bus to depart every 15 to 20 minutes. Some buses operate up to three trips per day to meet the high demand.
