The Sri Lankan Navy took an Indian fishing boat and four Indian fishermen into custody for illegal fishing in Sri Lankan territorial waters.
The arrests occurred during a special search operation conducted on the 13th in the sea area north of Mannar.
According to the Navy, several Indian fishing vessels were spotted entering local waters within the North Central Naval Command's jurisdiction.
While an operation was launched to chase the vessels away, one boat remained in Sri Lankan waters in violation of maritime laws and was subsequently seized.
After boarding and inspecting the craft, naval personnel apprehended the four fishermen on board.
Both the vessel and the suspects were handed over to the Kilinochchi Fisheries Inspector’s Office for further legal proceedings.
