Police are failing to enforce the law against false propaganda and defamation carried out by the "Pelawatte Laundry Brigade" via social media, and a visit to Police Headquarters to demand answers will take place soon.
New People's Front leader Sugeeshwara Bandara states that despite numerous complaints, no investigations have begun into social media groups allegedly operating under the guidance of the JVP and NPP.
The police have not yet taken action against the "Pelawatte Laundry Brigade" for spreading false claims that organisers from the SLPP and Sarvajana Balaya removed taps from the renovated Pettah Central Bus Stand, even though two formal complaints were filed.
Bandara points out that the police have become unprecedentedly politicised, raising serious questions about whether the department is being controlled from Pelawatte.
Inquiries into several complaints, including the release of 323 containers without customs inspection, a massive coal scam, and the government's failure to act on warnings regarding Cyclone Ditwah, have not been properly conducted.
This lack of progress makes it clear that the police are acting with bias toward the government.
Bandara further mentions that he and members of the New People's Front intend to remain at Police Headquarters until they receive a clear explanation regarding these matters.
