An attempt to defame Hiru Media Network is underway on social media using a forged document claiming the network requested police protection.
In a statement, Deputy News Director Tharanga Dinush Jayakodi states that the letter circulating on social media, which suggests a request was made to the Inspector General of Police to provide security for staff of the Hiru Media Network, is entirely fake.
He wishes to emphasise that no such request was made to the IGP and stressed that legal action will be taken against those who created the forged documents.
He also expects to send a strong response to the letter of demand sent by Minister K.D. Lalkantha to Hiru News within the next 24 hours.
