The Fort Magistrate directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conclude investigations quickly regarding allegations that former President Ranil Wickremesinghe caused a loss of over Rs. 15 million to the government by travelling to London for his wife’s graduation ceremony during his tenure.
Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe failed to appear in court today (29).

Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, appearing for the prosecution, informed the court that measures will be taken to file indictments against the suspects before the next date.
He further mentioned that they are currently studying whether to name Maithree Wickremesinghe, the wife of the former President, as a suspect in the case.
The other suspect in the matter, former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake, appeared in court today while on bail. The case stands adjourned until July 08.
