A popular tuition teacher conducting classes in Laggala, Bakamuna, and Naula was arrested today (29) along with a car on suspicion of abusing a schoolgirl.
Laggala Police stated that the crime came to light during an investigation into a complaint received a few days ago regarding an assault on the teacher by the girl's father.
Laggala Police OIC Chief Inspector Dhammika Pathiraja grew suspicious of the statements provided by the girl and subsequently examined the mobile phones of both the suspect and the victim.
Police mentioned that the details of the incident were uncovered after confirming that semi-nude photos of the girl were exchanged with the teacher.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect facilitated romantic relationships among the male and female students attending his tuition classes.
It was further disclosed that he took girls to the Knuckles ecosystem and mountain-top viewpoints in his luxury car, where he abused them inside the vehicle.
The victim was admitted to the Dambulla Base Hospital for a medical examination.
The Child and Women’s Bureau commenced investigations under the instructions of the Laggala OIC to determine if the teacher abused other children.
