Customs seize turmeric consignment imported from India

Officers of the Revenue Task Force of Sri Lanka Customs seized a large quantity of turmeric yesterday, which was being smuggled into the country, hidden inside gypsum plaster imported from India. The seizure includes 2,580 kilograms of turmeric powder and 3,950 kilograms of dried turmeric bulbs.

The smuggling attempt involved meticulously concealing the items within gypsum plaster packaging. Customs officials uncovered the illegal import during an inspection carried out based on received information. Further investigations regarding the seized turmeric are currently underway.
