Police arrested 22 youths along with their motorcycles for performing reckless stunts near a private university on Chandrika Kumaratunga Mawatha in Malabe.
Kaduwela Police carried out the arrests after the Traffic Branch OIC received information regarding a group obstructing commuters through a motorcycle display.
Police teams surrounded the location to prevent escape and took the suspects into custody.
Investigations revealed that the group organised the event via a WhatsApp group and conducted the stunts in a manner that caused significant public distress.
Among the twenty-two seized motorcycles, two were found to be unregistered in the country.
All the arrested suspects reside in areas outside the Kaduwela police jurisdiction.
The suspects were released on police bail and must appear before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court on May 5.
