A young woman died and another sustained critical injuries after a powerful lightning strike hit a house in the Kokwatta area of Habaraduwa early this morning (03). Police stated that the victims are two employees of the Koggala Free Trade Zone who stayed at a private lodging in Kokwatta for their employment.
The deceased identified as 26-year-old Imasha Madhubhashani, a resident of the Urubokka area in Deniyaya. The other woman, who suffered severe burns, remains in critical condition at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle. Heavy rains affected the area at the time of the incident.
